Hello World!

Pixelpaint HQ is a mystical place. We occupy an old airforce base in the middle of nowhere AKA Shelly Bay, Wellington, and we run this mother.  It’s like Fraggle rock or Santa’s work shop out here, minus the creepy puppets/elves.

Located just metres from the seaside, every day feels like a nautical adventure. When I drive to work in the mornings, I look out across the rugged yet beautiful coastline and sometimes I almost hit a seagull.  It’s magic.

I’m pretty new to the pixelpaint scene, and before I started work here I tried to dig up some goss on pixelpaint, but found nothing. So I thought I’d offer an insight into a day in the life of a pixelpaint employee, because I like to talk about myself.

We have the best view in the world. Our view brings all the boys to the yard, literally. Our full time employee male to female ratio is 11:1. We could teach you, but we’d have to change.
My workday starts at 9am and the majority of my morning spent gazing out over the ocean, bonding with pixelpaint customers over all sorts of things. Popular topics include; computer issues and which border selection is right ‘for you’.

Sometimes I feel like Oprah, because every now and then people open up to me. It’s always fun to hear the stories behind the images people choose. Our customers are hilarious, emotional, excited and for the most part, lovely.  Interacting with customers is my favourite part of the job.  So please, feel free to harass us with calls and emails because I love it.

Before I even have to time to twitter stalk the Kardashians, the first part of my morning is over and it’s coffee time. The Chocolate Fish Café is our local, and when I say local, I mean it’s the only café in Shelly Bay. Luckily it’s amazing. Coffee time is like the ‘family dinner’ of our workplace. We sit around the table and discuss important issues and re-enact episodes of the Mighty Boosh.

After our caffeine fix, the pixelpaint familia is back on the grind. There are always about 100 things to do, whether it’s making canvases, developing new products or discussing the pros and cons of purchasing seven pairs of the same pants, we are always hustling and making moves.  People often describe us as a legal and better looking version of the mafia which I feel is accurate.

After lunch and a quick trip to production to check on the canvases, we indulge in a host of top secret activities. Want to know more about our up-coming products? Want to meet the team? Don’t worry; I’m being vague on purpose because I’m making a tell-all video documentary. Stay tuned.
